  • I've added some card pages, but I don't have time to fill them out, can you fix up Nissa, Nature's Artisan?

    Thanks so much

  • heyy i would like to  add some cards and such on here but i am not really sure how to make those pages. could you explain?  have a nice day.

    • Sure, nice to have you here. ^^

To add a page, you can either click on a red link or click on Contribute in the upper right corner and click Add a page. If you used the Add a page version, you have to name the card page with the card name.

If you did that, a empty window will open; this is the actual editing page. I would recommend pasting this text in there (It actually needs these things { at the start and end of the page):

      Cardpage

      |name =

      |image1 =

      |p/r1 =

      |type =

      |cost =

      |cmc =

      |p/t =

      |rules =

      |flavor =

This is the card page template, the wiki will automatically recognize this as a cardpage. Now you need to fill in the actual information (I will take the Auriok Champion as an example, you can check that page if you aren't sure about things; or just ask me again ^^): name would be Auriok Champion; image1 is the actual file name of the picture, in this case File:Auriok_Champion_5DN.jpg with double square brackets on each side; p/1 would be this Rarity|Fifth Dawn|Rare with double square brackets and is needed for the rarity symbol; type is the card type; cost is the mana cost with colored mana, cmc stands for converted mana cost and is the mana cost without color; rules is the actual card text and flavor is the flavor text.

We take all pictures from Magic Gatherer and just save them under Add a Photo; the Auriok Champion picture for example is named Auriok Champion 5DN.jpg. The 5DN is the short version for Fifth Dawn, this is important if a card is actually reprinted in later editions.

That should be it for now, hope thats not too much stuff for now. If needed, please feel free to ask. ^^

  • Hey StalkingVengeance,
if you need image files renamed, you can dump requests in this thread or use Template:Bad File Name. This would help keeping track, instead of me checking each user's profile page. ;D

    Cheers!

    • Yeah, I can do that. But don't think of my profile page as a global to do list. I'm just using it as some sort of notepad whenever I see something; i'm not forcing you to check my page regularly. ;)

    • Cool. Also, don't hesitate to add those category questions to the policy page. Loyalty icons for planeswalkers will be completed when I'll find decent images or a good image template+time to do some photoshop. :)

  • Hey StalkingVengeance,
saw you set up [[Fold into Æther]]. WotC announced lately that they will change all "Æ" into "AE". YM made a useful page, if you're looking for more background information. So, if there are more "Æ" you're planning to set up this might spare you some time/effort. ;)

    Cheers!

    • It's okay if they are made. Does save a redirect I guess though.

Whether they are or not, that page serves as an easy way to have links to them all, so I can make sure nothing links to them.

Random: I haven't been editing lately due to a cold. I'll probably rename them all soon if not beaten to it.

    • Thanks for the information. I was just doing the Fold into Aether page because it was the next to do in order to finish the Fifth Dawn cards.

Can I still hope for a answer on the Categories/Color Seperation discussion? I'm waiting for 10 days now, but no one answered again.

  • Hello again, StalkingVengeance. :)

I saw that you added categories to Ugin, the Spirit Dragon and couldn't help but look closer.

I saw that you added the category CMC: 8, which is correct, however if the CMC is not already on the cardpage, then there is a more complete way to convey the information that actually puts the CMC on the cardpage itself. :)

The reason why we add the CMC to the cardpage is because when we put in that value into the template, it automatically categorizes the CMC for us. (Cool, huh? That was Yami Michael's work.)

Anyways, in order to add the value to the cardpage, you can choose to add it via VisualEditor or SourceEditor.

    To Add CMC w/ VisualEditor:

    • Click the "Edit" button
    • Select the Cardpage
    • Click the button on the top right corner of the highlighted template where it says "Cardpage" and a jigsaw puzzle piece
    • Scroll around until you find a value that says "cmc"
    • Put in the value
    • Click Save Changes to exit the cardpage and see the CMC placed on the cardpage (This only takes you out of the cardpage parameters, you're still in VisualEditor now)
    • Click Save Changes again to save your total changes and exit VisualEditor.

    To Add CMC with SourceEditor.

    • Click the "Edit" button
    • Click the dropdown box next to the "Caution" button and the "Save Changes" button
    • Click "Source Editor"
    • Add the following value between any of the lines (But make sure it's on its own line):
    |cmc= 8
    • Click Save Changes to exit SourceEditor and see the CMC placed on the cardpage (This only takes you out of the SourceEditor, you're still in VisualEditor now)
    • Click Save Changes again to save your total changes and exit VisualEditor.

    • True. But if you were to click on Category:Green would you want all the cards that are Green? Or anything related to Green? Different answers depending on the person.

I was even debating about the devoid cards as well. They require colored mana, but are also colorless because of the keyword. So colorless should always be a category, but should they still be in the category for their other colored category?

Much discussions to be had, so we are all on the same page.

    • That's very helpful, thanks Perhaps. I'll look over the card pages and check if they all have the CMC listed. The list is actually a thing I do in every wiki I work on, I'm pretty much using my profile page as a word pad/reminder thingy. ^^

    • Hello Perhaps,

good to hear that I was able to help the wiki out. Wasn't really sure, if the stuff I edited was correct, but it seems to be fine then. ^^

I didn't even know that there was a Magic wiki, found it by browsing through the adoption request on community central. But now that I found it, might aswell edit a little bit around here.

If I've questions, I'll send one of you a message. Thanks for the kind words.

One question though: Can the normal user erase wrong categories on this wiki? I remember doing that on all the other wikis I worked on, but it didn't seem to work here the last time I tried.

    • It's a bit different here. On MTG Wiki, in order to remove a category you'd need to do one of two things:

      • click the "Edit" button, then go to the visualeditor cardpage template, scroll down to the bottom where it says "Content" and remove categories that don't need to be there. If you don't see the categories at first try scrolling with your mouse hovering over the bar.
      • Click the "Edit" button, then go to the Source Editor and scroll down to the bottom where it will display categories similar to the way it displayed them in the "Content" section of the visualeditor version of the cardpage.

  • Hey StalkingVengeance!
Welcome to the wiki and thanks for the addition of Auriok Champion. I did some minor changes to it and added the Rulings from Gatherer. If you're planing on adding more pages from Fifth Dawn and need assistance, let me, Perhaps or YM know.

    Cheers!

btw: I'm from Germany aswell, so if you should have problems with translation or talking in english, können wir uns auch gern auf Deutsch unterhalten. ;D

    • Yeah, I started with BFZ some time ago, until we agreed I should focus on the newest set instead. So, once SOI is completed, I think I'll work my way backwards through the sets.

Funnily enough, Perhaps mentioned yesterday thinking about learning some german. So, if we drop in one or two phrases from time to time, we maybe can keep his hunger for knowledge going. ;P
