Permanent

A permanent is any card that stays in play until removed by sending it to its owner's graveyard or hand, or removed from play.

There are five types of permanents. They are creature, land, artifact, enchantment and planeswalker. Instants and Sorceries are not permanents. Once a sorcery or instant spell resolves, that card goes to the graveyard.
