Permanents

From Magic: The Gathering

A "permanent" is any card that stays in play once it has been played. Basically, this means anything other than an Instant or Sorcery. Land, Creature, Enchantment, and Artifact cards are all permanents once they are in play. Keep in mind that it is only considered a permanent while it is actually in play. On the stack, it is considered a spell, and anywhere else, it is simply a card.
