Hi guys, I haven't posted anything for a very long time because my computer was broken.
If you haven't heard already, Jace the Mind Sculptor and Stoneforge Mystic are now banned from Standard. The reason? Caw-blade. Caw-blade was a kind of white-blue control equipment deck. Before Scars of Mirrodin Block came out, Caw-blade wasn't anything bad. But when Mirrodin Besieged came out, Stoneforge Mystic could now search for the mighty Sword of Feast and Famine. It got worse when New Phyrexia came out with Batterskull and Sword of War and Peace. Soon, tournaments had more Caw-blades than all other decks put together. The culprit was obviously Stoneforge Mystic.
Now, Jace is also played in Caw-blade. Jace is played in EVERY blue deck. Nowadays, most decks force blue just for Jace. Jace is simply too good for several reasons. First, he has four abilities, making him more versatile than other planeswalkers. Second, he is only 4 to cast. Third, his abilities are extremely effective. His ultamite is simply crazy. Nobody can come back from it (unless they discard an Eldrazi). His other abilities are very good for only +1, 0, and -1. Soon, nobody could wistand Jace. Dozens of cards were packed into decks to try to get around him, but it was futile. Dozens of really good cards were abandoned because of him. Now that he is gone, those cards will return.
So what do you think of the bannings? If you ask me, it really awesome. Sure, I like those two cards, but when they are played that much, the game isn't fun anymore. Now people will be trying out a lot of new things. Also, those two cards were so much better than some very good cards that those cards weren't played. Now they will. Also, this gives Scars of Mirrodin Block a chance to match up with the very powerful Zendikar Block. So I ask you two things. Were you surprised that two cards were banned? And what do you think of it?
